170 years of Schwan STABILO The STABILO brand originated from Grossberger & Kurz Bleistiftfabrik, a pencil factory founded in Nuremberg, Germany, in 1855.

In 1865, Gustav Schwanhäußer purchased the factory (which was then in bankruptcy) with a loan from his father to improve and develop pencil production. He renamed the business the “Schwan Pencil Factory” and adopted the swan as the company’s symbol.The STABILO name was first used around 1925 for a range of strong, durable colored pencils (the name “STABILO” reflecting their stability and sturdiness).

In 1971, the company launched the STABILO BOSS, its first highlighter pen, which has since become a global standard and bestseller.Under the management of the Schwan-STABILO Group, the business has expanded into three main divisions:
